Intercontinental Distillers, Ota, has advocated cultural renaissance as a vehicle for social development.
This was stated in the goodwill message delivered by the Sales Operations Manager of the distillery, Mr Adebayo Akinde, during the inauguration of the 5th anniversary of Odeda Hunters Association, on Wednesday, in Odeda.
Patron of the association and lecturer at the Federal College of Education, Osiele, Dr Sunday Makinde, encouraged youths to take up hunting as pastime.
Akinde said, “There is an urgent need for cultural renaissance in the country. Our cultural ethos should be reawakened. Culture is a vehicle for social development.”
Makinde said, “Hunting develops the mind and body. Hunting, in the days of our forebears, comes with responsibilities. Hunters were a very loyal, disciplined, trustworthy, and dedicated set of people.”
They loved one another and they ensured security.
“These are the virtues we intend to replicate in our present day society by encouraging youths to take to hunting. For animal right advocates, we are not promoting the killing of big games. We are hunting small games.
“We are only promoting the culture of synergy and cooperation as a tool for human society development. When youths come together to hunt, they would develop camaraderie, love and unity.
Akinde said, “Our leading brand, Eagle Aromatic Schnapps, is loved by hunters who use it for prayers, evocations and festivals. We are partnering with hunters because they patronise our products.
“We hope that this partnering would awaken the interest of our youths in pastimes such as hunting and ethics of good neighbourliness. We must be our brother’s keeper. Hunting brings people together and fosters peace.”
