‘Auto show’ll focus on parts, fleet management’

The eight edition of Lagos motor show will focus on the development of spare parts and fleet management, the organiser of the event, BKG Exhibition Limited, has said.

Already, the firm said about 70 foreign companies involved in spare part manufacturing out of 150 firms expected had confirmed their participation in event fixed for May 10 to May 16, 2013.

A statement from BKG said, “Strategically as we did last year, we are laying emphasis on the spare parts sector in this edition. This is as a result of our guided intention to enhance the development of cottage industries in the spare parts sub-sector of the automotive business sector with the attendant multiplier effects on the economy of the nation.

“Our target is to attract many reputable Original Equipment Manufacturers of spare parts from across the globe to participate in this edition as well as in subsequent ones.”

The Chairman of the Organising Committee for the show, Mr. Ifeanyichukwu Agwu, said, “The fair will be a landmark and a benchmark in auto show business in the entire West African sub-region.”

The event, it said, was being organised in conjunction with its foreign partners, SENEXPO International Fairs Inc of Turkey.

“Our intention in bringing them to Lagos, which is the hub of automotive business in West Africa, is to enable Nigerians and neighbouring West Africans engage in auto spare business, work out rewarding and lasting business relationships with the main companies engaged in the manufacture of auto spare parts,”  Agwu said.

He also said, almost all the major vehicle manufacturers and dealers in Nigeria would be participating at the fair with banks and insurance companies.

He listed major oil companies for the event, adding that manufacturers and dealers in auto-accessories had indicated interest and were preparing for the event.

The statement said, “On parade shall be unique ranges of automobile products from notable companies from the Asian continent dominated by Japanese, Chinese and South Korean auto- firms. Here, products from Honda, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Kia, Nissan, among others, will be on display.

“The European and American Continents will equally be there with products from the stables of Ford, Mack, Mercedes, Chevrolet, Volvo, BMW and Skoda.

“From the home front, PAN Nigeria and National Trucks Manufacturers Limited will showcase the latest in their ranges of products.”
