We covered how to set-up a wordpress blog last week, and this week, we will be taking a look at another very important aspect of the wordpress called ‘themes.’
Themes are website templates and they represent the frontend of your wordpress website. It is important for you to have a fair idea of themes and how to select the right one for your business. Remember, your website is what sells you to the world and that is why you must choose a theme (design) that truly sells your brand the best.
First tip to consider when choosing a theme is security. I am extremely conscious of this in today’s world and I advice you should be too. Find out who created the themes and his or her track record. Also, search online if there are any complaints whatsoever about the theme or it’s creator. You could check the codes too but that will be too much trouble for a non-techie. However, note that spammers also create free themes that serve as a leeway for them to deal with you or your website visitors.
Second tip is to choose a theme that flows with your industry. On the Internet, there are thousands of wordpress themes that represent various industries such as blogging, designs (includes interior, architecture, website design), manufacturing, consulting, NGO and lots more. Simply look for a theme that you believe would work best with your industry.
Third tip is to decide if you want your theme to be responsive or not. A responsive theme adapts itself to any device whether desktop, tablet or mobile. My suggestion is to install a free mobile wordpress plugin if you are going to be blogging and then find a responsive theme if you are going to be creating a business website.
Lastly, which is also a very important point, is to decide if you want to use a free or premium wordpress theme. WordPress has created millionaires all over the world who provide various services all centred around the wordpress framework. The premium theme industry is certainly worth millions of dollars and I can tell you that the numbers keep increasing. Free themes are what they are so you may not get the best in terms of support and updates.
