THE Chartered Institute of Personnel Management is set to reward human resource practitioners who have executed HR Initiatives that impacted on business operations and solved key organisational problems.
According to the institute, the award, referred to as Human Resource Optimisation Award, will be given alongside the HR Best Practice Awards at its 47th annual conference in Abuja.
Speaking at a press briefing in Lagos, the President of CIPM, Anthony Arabome, explained that the move was to reinforce the presence of human resource practitioners among other strategic business partners in their organisations.
According to him, the human resource business partner model, in which HR practitioners are key input in corporate strategy, has become the accepted way to address the immediate and future needs of the organisation.
He added that the model was gradually transforming the function of the practitioners especially in the way they function within the executive ranks.
The CIPM boss said, “Becoming more strategic not only means losing the transactional and broadening business acumen, but having a complete understanding of all aspects of the organisation to provide a more consultative role to the CEO and department heads.
“This transformation is changing the very structure of human resources. Creating a team of passionate HR business partners and strategic executives who understand all facets of the business and its marketplace can help to guide and influence corporate strategy, and develop a high performance workforce that is more competitive, productive and efficient.”
Arabome, who briefed journalists on the upcoming conference themed, ‘Go Beyond,’ stressed that it would create a veritable platform for members and participants to upscale their knowledge on human resource management issues. Specifically, he said the conference would provide human resource practitioners and non-practitioners within and outside the country the opportunity to update their knowledge, enrich their network and proffer solutions to topical issues of relevance to contemporary business. He said, “Everything is changing and changing fast. HR professionals are continually faced with the challenges of shortage of talents, privacy resulting from fast-growing influence of social media, ethics in corporate governance and predictive analytics, amongst others.” As a result, he said business complexity and uncertainty now required that HR professionals would demonstrate proactive qualities that were laced with flawless execution capabilities rather than business as usual.
