The National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency has said that in the coming months, it will sanction companies engaged in the degradation of the environment.
The agency said it had come to its notice that firms operating in the country were found of giving excuses when advised on what to do in order to protect the environment.
The Director-General/Chief Executive, NESREA, Mrs. Ngeri Benebo, said the recent disastrous flooding in many parts of the country was largely due to environmental neglect by different organisations and communities.
She said these at a one-day workshop for accredited environmental consultants in Abuja.
Benebo said, “We will be sanctioning errant facilities in the coming months. Because some of our consultants have complained to us that when they consult for some facilities and they tell them what to do, the facilities say no that they don’t have money. But they are making a lot of money. We cannot allow the degradation of our environment to continue.
