Members of the Nigerian Association for Energy Economics and other non-member experts drawn from the industry and the academics will converge on Lagos next week to discuss the challenges facing energy resource management in the country.

Beyond looking at the constraints, the sixth annual international conference being organised by NAEE will proffer strategies that will be required for efficient energy management in Nigeria.

NAEE is the Nigerian affiliate of the International Association of Energy Economics, which is present in over 100 countries.

NAEE, which was established in December, 2006, is the only African affiliate of the IAEE.

Speaking to journalists in Lagos, on Tuesday, NAEE President, Prof. Adeola Adenikinju, who is also a professor of economics at the University of Ibadan, said, the association provided an annual forum for energy professionals to exchange ideas and experiences about energy issues in the country.

According to him, the theme of the conference is: ‘Energy resource management in the federal system: challenges, constraints and strategies.’

“This topic is very timely as we address the issues bordering on efficient management of our energy resources, especially how to ensure that our energy resources are managed for the benefit of present and future Nigerians. There have been lots of conflicts between various groups within our federal system on how to manage these energy resources. These conflicts have been between the Federal Government and the states and even the oil producing states,” he said

“These are challenges, as a federal entity, we have to face and it is important we bring experts to come and talk about them,” he said.
