Cadbury Nigeria Plc has introduced a safety policy that will ensure that workers are protected from hazards within its premises.

The policy tagged: ‘WorkPlayLiveSafe’ was inaugurated at the company’s headquarters in Lagos on Monday, and is operational in all Cadbury branches worldwide.

The Managing Director, Cadbury West Africa, Mr. Emil Moskafian, said the workers would undergo a one-week of training and awareness programme to ensure that safety became a way of life for them.

“Safety is the number one priority for us in everything we do. We ensure adherence everyday and every minute; we do not compromise on safety for whatever reason. For us, business success comes with safety without which nothing will be achieved,” he said.

Although Moskafian said the company had not recorded any casualty in the last few years, he said the safety policy was necessary and urged every employee to report safety concerns as soon as they were discovered.

The Director, Integrated Supply Chain, Cadbury, Mr. Nasir Malik, who also spoke at the ceremony, said safety measure began from the chief executive officer down to members of staff, and was aimed at avoiding hazardous situations.

According to him, every month, 100 people are assigned to screen the company’s premises for several hours, looking for hazardous situations.

Malik said, “We call it safety scan, we have it recorded, scrutinised and worked on; that is how we prevent most of the accidents that would have occurred.

“Improving health and safety has been seen to offer a wide range of benefits to companies, not only by reducing injury costs and cutting sickness leave to the barest minimum, but also increasing profitability, raising morale and lowering insurance premium, while also helping businesses comply with legislation.”
