NSE Index rebounds by 0.3%

After recording significant decline on Thursday, major market indicators of the Nigerian Stock Exchange recorded a rebound on Friday.

At the close of trading activities, the NSE’s All-Share Index rose by 0.3 per cent or 105.91 basis points from 32,887.46 basis points to 32,993.97 points.

Similarly, the market capitalisation of the listed equities increased by 0.3 per cent or N33bn to N10.546tn up from N10.513tn recorded the preceding day.

The NSE-30 Index and the Consumer Goods Index rose by 0.4 per cent and 0.1 per cent to close at 1,574.85 and 968.63 basis points respectively.

The NSE Banking Index recorded the highest appreciation rising by 1.2 per cent or 4.59 basis points to close at 379.44 basis points.

AG Leventis Plc recorded the highest price appreciation of the day, rising by 10 per cent or 14 kobo to close at N1.54 per share.

RT Briscoe Plc gained 10 per cent or 18 kobo to close at N1.98 per share, while Forte Oil Plc rose by 9.9 per cent to close at N15.55 per share.

IPWA Plc and Learn Africa Plc gained 9.6 per cent and 9.3 per cent, to close at 68 kobo and N1.52 per share respectively, while Wapic Insurance Plc and PZ Cussons Plc gained 7.7 per cent and 7.1 per cent to close at N1.25 and N42 per share in that order.

Air Services and Logistics Plc, on the other hand, lost the highest price for the day, shedding 10 per cent or 42 kobo to close at N3.78 per share.

DN Meyer Plc also lost 9.8 per cent or 15 kobo to close at N1.38 per share.

Chemical and Allied Products Plc also lost 9.7 per cent or N4 to close at N37 per share, while John Holt Plc fell by 9.6 per cent or 16 kobo to close at N1.50 per share.

The banking sub-sector maintained its lead on the activity chart, accounting for 63 per cent of total volume traded.

Turnover in the sub-sector was largely driven by trading in the shares of United Bank for Africa Plc, Skye Bank Plc, Diamond Bank Plc and Zenith Bank Plc.
