Trading activities on the Nigerian Stock Exchange closed positive on Thursday as indicators recorded significant appreciation.
Specifically, the market capitalisation of the listed equities hit N11tn mark as it rose by N340bn or 3.2 per cent from N10.692tn on Tuesday to N11.031tn.
Similarly, the NSE’s All-Share Index increased by 1,061.81 basis points or 3.2 per cent to close at 33,440.57 points, from 34,502.38 points recorded the previous day.
The NSE-30 Index rose by 2.8 per cent or 44.41 basis points, from 1,595.02 points to close at 1,639.43 basis points, while the Consumer Goods Index rose by 0.2 per cent or 1.86 basis points from 971.57 basis points to 973.43 points.
The NSE Banking Index also gained one per cent or 3.79 basis points to 394.01 basis points from 390.22 points recorded the preceding day.
The banking sub-sector maintained its lead on the activity chart, with investors exchanging 198.86 million shares, worth N2.308bn in 2,409 transactions.
Activities in the banking sub-sector accounted for 66 per cent of total turnover.
Volume in the sub-sector was driven by trading in the shares of Zenith Bank Plc.
Other stocks that drove turnover in the sub-sector were Skye Bank Plc, Fidelity Bank Plc, Unity Bank Plc and Ecobank Transnational Incorporated Plc.
Learn Africa Plc led 36 other stocks on the price gainers’ chart, rising by 10 per cent or 20 kobo to close at N2.20 per share.
The shares of John Holt Plc, Dangote Cement Plc, Air Services and Logistics Plc, AG Leventis Plc rose by 10 per cent each to close at N1.54, N178.2, N3.30 and N1.65 per share, respectively, while Chemical and Allied Products Plc gained 9.9 per cent to close at N46.80 per share.
On the other hand, Vono Plc lost the highest, shedding 10 per cent or 26 kobo to close at N2.34 per share.
RT Briscoe Plc lost 10 per cent or 20 kobo to close at N1.80 per share.
African Prudential Plc lost 9.6 per cent or 15 kobo to close at N1.40 per share, while Prestige Assurance Plc and Costain West African Plc shed 9.5 per cent and 9.4 per cent to close at 57 kobo and N1.06 per share in that order.
In all, investors staked N3.744bn on 303.25 million shares, in 5,754 deals.
