Members of the Nigeria Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers will gather in Lagos on January 31 for the 19th John Wood Ekpenyong Memorial Lecture, which provides the body’s leadership an opportunity for self-evaluation and addresses pressing national development issues as it relates to the profession.

The late John Wood Ekpenyong was the first Nigerian to qualify as a chartered surveyor/estate surveyor and valuer, and it was in his memory that NIESV instituted the lecture series in 1995.

The President, NIESV, Mr. Emeka Eleh, will declare the lecture open, while the 11th President of the institution and Chairman of its Board of Trustees, Mr. Joe Idudu, will preside over the event.

The Honorary National Publicity Secretary, NIESV, Otunba Victor Ayeye, said in a statement that the 9th President of the institution and current Chairman, Estate Surveyors and Valuers Registration Board of Nigeria, Mr. Ayodele Sangosanya, would deliver the main lecture with the theme, ‘Honesty and devotion in Nigeria’s transformation agenda.’

Ayeye said, “The Ekpenyong Memorial Lecture has come to be a think-tank session for members of NIESV; and beyond the cerebral engagements that take place during the lecture, it is also a forum for past and present leaders of the institution to share experiences.”

He said in the history of the lecture series, non-members of the institution had always been invited to share knowledge on topical nation building themes.

“The lecture series has come to serve as a knowledge resource for our members and the general public as some of our past guests have been drawn from the private and public sectors with each bringing different values and contributions to national discourse,” Ayeye said.

He said some members who were recently ratified by the National Council of NIESV as Fellows of the institution would be formally admitted and inducted at the luncheon that would follow the lecture.
