The Policy and Monitoring Committee of the National Council on Privatisation led by the Minister of National Planning, Dr. Shamsudeen Usman, will on Friday (today), visit the Lagos ports to ascertain their operation following their concession to private investors.

The Head, Public Communications, Bureau of Public Enterprises, Mr. Chigbo Anichebe, said this in a statement made available to our correspondent in Abuja on Thursday.

The schedule of the visit by the committee could not be ascertained as at press time, but our correspondent reports that the ports were formerly controlled by the Nigerian Ports Authority, but were conceded to private operators, would be on the list.

The committee had earlier visited the Benue Cement Company, Gboko, Benue State (now part of Dangote Cement Plc) in its monitoring tour of privatised enterprises across the country.

At Gboko, Usman said privatisation, as an economic policy of the Federal Government, had substantially achieved its objective, adding that the government would ensure its continuation.

He informed the company’s management that the purpose of the monitoring tour was to ascertain how government policies were affecting the performances of privatised enterprises in respect of the implementation of their post-acquisition plans.
