India’s Reliance Industries has reportedly shut-in an eighth well at the D6 Block in the Krishna-Godavari basin, off the country’s east coast.
Local media, according to Upstreamonline, reported that output at the block had plummeted to an all time low of just under 20.9 million cubic metres per day, almost a quarter of the blocks planned peak capacity of 80mmcmd.
According to a report from India’s Directorate General of Hydrocarbons, Reliance shut-in the B6 well on main producing Dhiburbhai-1 and 3 (D1 and D3) fields on 9 January due to water loading.
Reliance has drilled a total of 22 wells on the D6 Block, but only 18 of those had been brought on to production so far.
Output from the D1 and D3 fields reached a peak of 55 mmcmd in August 2010 but has declined since with water and sand choking the wells.
The same problem is responsible for about one third of the wells on the MA oilfield, which also lies on the D6 Block, to be shut-in.
