Concerned with the poor level of identity capturing in developing countries, technology design firm, Innovectives, has introduced into the Nigerian market multi-technology mobile solution for identity management.

A statement from the company on Friday indicated that the device was assembled in North America, but conceptualised and designed in Nigeria to meet local needs.

The portable device has built-in technologies for fingerprint, iris and facial readers, biometrics recognition capability, 1/2D barcode capturing, smart card and NFC reader for Identification and Payment and 8MP Camera for document scan, the statement added.

The Managing Director of the company, Mr. Emmanuel Agha, was quoted as saying that unlike the biometric registration and authentication devices currently used by organisations for identity capturing and management, the device was all in one.

“It is efficient, fast, secure and affordable”, he said, adding that low power consumption capability was added to the machine because of the erratic power system experienced in most developing countries, as the sensor generates initial image size of 800 x 750 pixels (resolution of 500ppi).

“The device is capable of capturing four fingers within three seconds after sensors are initiated on the USB.  It is also capable of saving the fingerprint into the tablet and on a smartcard as well as transfer the fingerprint data into a back-end server for future comparison,” he explained.

Areas where the application would be useful include the capturing of identity and biometric of fresh university graduates who are serving in different parts of the country under the National Youth Service

Corps, students writing entrance examinations into tertiary and secondary schools conducted by the various examination bodies such Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, West Africa Examinations Council and the voters registration and verification exercise.

He also identified Police formations, Know Your Customers exercise being undertaken by the banks, agent banking, vital civic registrations, border entry control, identity management and identity verification as other areas that the device would find good use.

“The device would help all these organisations that are involved in biometric registrations and verifications to achieve their mandates more conveniently, affordable, securely and efficiently,” he added.
