The Power Holding Company of Nigeria, Eko Electricity Distribution Company, has called on the police  as well as State Security Service to help to sustain the fight against vandalism of power installations.

The Chief Executive Officer of the company, Mr. Oladele Amoda, who recently made this appeal during a Customers’ Parliament Forum in Lagos, solicited for sustained support by the  Police, SSS and other security agencies to end acts of vandalism and boost power supply in the zone.

Amoda further stressed that the socio-economic effect of vandalism was disruptive, adding that  apart from throwing communities into darkness, the cost of replacing vandalised equipment was colossal.

Lamenting that the cost of replacing vandalised power installations  was becoming unbearable, Amoda said, “We spent millions of naira to replace the vandalised equipment; this amount would have been better expended on new projects for the customers.”

He also appealed to customers to protect power installations in their localities.

He specifically advised Community Development Associations and other well-meaning community members to assist in curbing vandalism of electrical equipment within their localities.

Amoda said the call was to ensure effective service delivery and stop acts of vandalism.

He said the customer forum was an avenue for various customers to express their views on how to improve on service delivery and to intimate PHCN of the challenges confronting the zone.

According to him, the parliament will X-ray the performance of the zone and how it can improve its service delivery.

The PHCN boss said  the forum would also create enabling environment to appeal to customers on ways to protect government equipment.
