FRSC urges road users to be safety conscious

The Kwara State Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, Mrs. Mary Wakama, has urged all road users to adhere strictly to the traffic rules and regulations.

She stated that the advice was particularly important now with the Eid-Fitri celebration, noting that there would be an increase in human and vehiclular movement in and out of the state.

According to her, the command will firmly enforce the traffic rules and regulations to avoid road accidents.

She appealed to road users not to over-speed, overload, drive dangerous or under the influence of alcohol.

She added that motorists and their passengers should make use of the seatbelts and avoid the use of telephone while driving.

She said, “All commercial motorcyclists, popularly called okada riders in the state and their passengers must wear crash helmet.

“Drivers and parents should adhere strictly to the seating positions of children in the vehicles and to make sure that they don’t stand or bring out their heads or elbows out of the vehicles to avoid injuries. Learners are to make sure that they have a licensed driver seating by their side.” Wakama also advised that all commercial buses not to remove the burglar proof metals attached to the windows of their buses, which could impede the escape of passengers in the event of an emergency.

She warned that the vehicles and other automobiles of violators would be impounded and the offenders prosecuted.
