The Ogun State Government has said it has taken measures to utilise sites abandoned by the immediate past administration to construct low cost housing estates for the people.

The Commissioner for Housing, Mr. Daniel Adejobi, made this known during a tour of existing and proposed government estates in Abeokuta, the state capital on Thursday, according to a statement made available to our correspondent.

Adejobi, who pointed out that the Ibara Housing Estate, Abeokuta, which was inherited from the past administration, had been completed, urged civil servants to expect the second phase of the Workers Estate, Laderin, adding that plans had been concluded to develop it.

He said the government was placing priority on housing and would do everything possible to ensure that the citizens become home owners, adding that affordable housing for all was part of the five-point agenda of the Governor Ibikunle Amosun administration.

Adejobi, who said the government had passion for affordable housing, but could not do it alone due to the huge capital outlay, called on genuine property developers to partner with it, saying the government  had signed a Memorandum of Understanding with some registered private companies in order to deliver on it housing mandate to the people.

He said the existing low cost estate at Ibara was for the public with facilities like electricity, pipe borne water, modern kitchen items and toilets, and would be inaugurated in September.
