The International Facility Management Association, Nigeria Chapter, has denied that it is interested in managing the Abuja National Stadium or any government facility.
This position was made known in a statement made available on Sunday by the President, IFMA Nigeria, Iyabo Aboaba, and Executive Secretary, Sade Airiohuodion. They were reacting to a story last week Monday in which Mr. Collins Osayamwen had claimed to be the Director, Board of Directors, IFMA Nigeria.
In that capacity, he had said since there appeared to be vague awareness of the essence of facility management in the country, IFMA would pick the Abuja National Stadium as a pilot project for it to demonstrate the capacity and ability of its members to give public facilities proper maintenance.
Osayamwen had also said the body was planning to present a bill to the National Assembly for the enactment of legislation on facility management.
However, Aboaba and Airiohuodion alleged that Osayamwen was not a member of IFMA Nigeria chapter and was not authorised by the association to speak or write on its behalf.
“The association is a body registered under Part C, Incorporated Trustees of the Companies and Allied Matters Act, 1990 and was issued with a certificate of registration on February 18, 1997,” Aboaba and Airiohuodion said.
The list of the current trustees and members of the governing council made available to our correspondent had Mr. Anthony Ezeaku, Aboaba, Olatunji Okesola, Abimbola Olusegun-Adamolekun and Sola Fatoki.
IFMA Nigeria said in the statement, “The association offers advice to governments at various levels and their agencies as well as to corporate organisations and individuals on world best practices on facility management.
“The association has not solicited for the management of the Abuja National Stadium or any government facility. The association does not solicit for jobs, but supports and encourages her members who are competent to solicit for jobs.”
