Nigerite Limited, a roofing sheet and building materials manufacturing company, has won the ‘Exceptional Safety and Health Standard Award’ for ensuring consistent safety of employees and visitors at its workplace.
The safety audit that led to the award was said to have been conducted in four geo-political zones namely: South-West, South-South, North Central and North-West.
The aim of the safety audit, according to a statement on Sunday, is to generate a data bank on the state of compliance of audited companies with the National OSH standards and to identify companies that are highly susceptible to injuries
Consequently, Nigerite was presented with a brand new 14-seater Toyota ambulance to further aid its commitment to safety of workers and visitors.
The award, a brainchild of the Nigerian Social Insurance Trust Fund and Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association’s Safe Workplace Intervention Project, was instituted to recognise and celebrate the few organisations in the country that were maintaining international safety standard in their workplaces.
Presenting the award at a forum in Ikeja, Lagos, the Director-General, NECA, Mr. Olusegun Oshinowo, said the recognition was to boost the morale of corporate organisations that were committed to human safety as well as serving as a wake-up call to other manufacturing companies that still paid lip-service to safety precautions.
