How to create a community around your blog (2)

Last week, I shared some tips that can help you build a community around your blog.

Here is the concluding part of the piece.

1. Seeking feedback

Make your users feel appreciated by posting content related to their needs. While interacting with readers, you can ask them how they’ve been keeping busy and if there is any way you could help them. This feedback will give them a sense of opinion and helps you in customising your posts. Listen to what they say, share and read; this will help you to build your brand to the highest rank.

2. Giving readers tasks

This might sound-school like but the technique of giving readers tasks is effectively being practised in many blogs with “how to “and “tips” around the web.

It is human nature to respond to challenges. So, the readers, after they have learnt something from the posts, are asked to apply what they have learnt in different tasks. You can give users tasks and ask them to report on how it went. This will help you to create loyalty among the readers.

3. Creating a newsletter

You can also add a weekly newsletter to your site. The newsletter helps in connecting with people and reminds them every week to visit the blog and interact. Surely writing a newsletter every week adds to the pile of work but believe me it is an amazing tool to let readers know about the latest posts on the page and drawing them to your blog repeatedly.

4. Asking readers to carry out tasks

One of the most popular methods of building a feeling of participation and owning with your readers is by giving them jobs. You will be surprised to see how many people are willing to do stuff other than just reading and consuming posts. These “jobs” can range from forum moderators, to making polls, to giving ideas and writing guest posts etc. Many popular blogs encourage other bloggers to write as guest authors on their blog.

The last advice I will offer here, is for you to be patient and keep posting content as the process of community building takes time.
