Subscriptions to the Long Term Evolution technology (4G) is expected to hit two billion mark by 2018, according to Ericsson’s Mobility Report
The Head, Strategic Marketing Intelligence at Ericsson, Mr. Patrik Cerwall, was quoted in the report as saying that the GSM subscription would start declining 2013/2014.
According to him, about 4.5 billion smartphone subscriptions are expected by the end of 2018.
He said, “Fifty-five per cent of phones sold during quarter two of 2013 were smartphones. By 2018, the average smartphone subscription will use 2GB of data per month.”
“LTE and smartphone uptake, he noted, would continue to drive video traffic growth.
Meanwhile, Ericsson’s connected vehicle cloud has been recognised for innovative contribution to its advance the field of Internet Protocol communications.
Ericsson, according to the report, enables significant opportunity for stakeholders in the automotive and technology ecosystems to reach drivers and passengers in new ways.
Ericsson’s connected vehicle cloud solution was recognised as best of show in the Cloud Solution category at this year’s ITEXPO, which took place in Las Vegas.
Winners of the award programme were reserved for products or services that demonstrated raw creativity and technological innovation, it said.
