Market capitalisation dips by N32bn

Activities on the Nigerian Stock Exchange closed negative on Monday with the NSE All-Share Index falling by 0.28 per cent to close at 36,088.64 from Friday’s close of 36,188.72.

Similarly, the market capitalisation of the listed equities fell by N32bn or 0.28 per cent to close at N11.494tn from N11.526tn.

The NSE 30 also fell by 0.28 per cent or 4.89 basis points to close at 1,686.83 from Friday’s close of 1,691.72.

The banking sub-sector maintained its lead on the activity chart, accounting for 62.76 per cent of total turnover.

In the sector, investors exchanged 162.024 million shares worth N462.655m in 1,702 deals.

Volume in the sector was driven by Unity Bank Plc, Sterling Bank Plc and Fidelity Bank Plc.

A total of 16 stocks recorded price appreciation while27 stocks recorded price depreciation.

Academy Press Plc led the gainers’ chart, rising by 10 per cent or 17 kobo to close at N1.87 per share.

It was followed by International Energy Insurance Company Plc, which lost 9.72 per cent or seven kobo to close at 79 kobo per share.  Total Nigeria Plc depreciated by 9.68 per cent or N14.65 to close at N166 per share, while NPF Microfinance Bank Plcrecorded a price depreciation of 7.69 per cent or six kobo to close at 84 kobo per share.

On the other hand, Jos International Breweries Plc led the losers,after it shed 9.91 per cent or 66 kobo to close at N6.

EternaPlc fell by 6.72 per cent or seven kobo to close at N2.50 per share. It was followed by OandoPlc, which shed 6.36 per cent or 70 kobo to close at N10.30 per share, while University Press Plc lost 5.82 per cent or 21 kobo to close at N2.40 per share.

In all, investors staked N1.517bn on 261.317 million shares in 4,612 deals.
