The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Standard Charterd Bank Limited, Mrs. Bola Adesola, has emerged the winner of the Outstanding Woman in Business category at the African Business Awards, 2013.
A statement made available to our correspondent on Tuesday said the award category was for the female candidate that had shown initiative and excellence in the workplace and made a significance contribution towards her company in terms of progress and growth.
Bola Adesola was appointed MD/CEO of Standard Chartered Bank Nigeria in March 2011.
Prior to joining the bank, she was an Executive Director in First Bank of Nigeria Plc where she was responsible for the Corporate Banking business, and managing the entire business in the Lagos Directorate including retail, corporate and commercial banking. Previously, she was MD of Kakawa Discount House, where she drove record business performance and Citi Bank in Nigeria and Tanzania.
Leading African businessmen such as Tony Elumelu and Edward Boateng were amongst those that received accolades at the African Business Awards 2013. Guests included many high profile policy makers and businessmen who are also in New York for the UN General Assembly.
The African Business Awards are organised by African Business magazine and Business in Africa Events and produced by IC Events. The Awards preceded the African Leadership Forum, a gathering of African leaders to discuss issues of leadership within an African context.
