Trading activities on the Nigerian Stock Exchange continued on an upward trend on Monday as major indicator recorded significant appreciation.
The market capitalisation of the listed equities rose by N87bn or 0.8 per cent from N10.370tn last Friday, to N10.457tn.
Similarly, the NSE’s All-Share Index increased by 273.17 basis points or 0.8 per cent to close at 32,685.03 points up from 32,411.03 points recorded the previous week.
The NSE-30 Index rose by 1.1 per cent or 16.44 basis points, from 1,556.60 points to close at 1,573.04 points, while the Consumer Index rose by 0.4 per cent rose or 3.87 basis points from 953.52 points the previous day, to close at 957.39 basis points.
NSE Banking Index recorded the highest rise by 3.3 per cent or 13.38 basis points from 399.83 points on Friday, to 413.21 points.
The banking sub-sector maintained its lead on the activity chart, with investors exchanging 338.03 million shares, worth N2.198bn in 3,199 transactions. Activities in the banking sub-sector accounted for 58 per cent of total turnover.
Volume in the sub-sector was driven by trading in the shares of Sterling Bank, Fidelity Bank Plc, United Bank for Africa, Unity Bank Plc and Guaranty Trust Bank Plc.
International Breweries Plc recorded the highest price appreciation of the day, rising by 10 per cent or N2.27 to close at N24.98 per share.
PZ Cussons Nigeria Plc also rose by 9.99 per cent or N3.56 to close at N39.19 per share.
Transnational Corporation of Nigeria Plc and Wema Bank Plc gained 9.78 per cent each to close at N1.57 and N1.01 per share respectively.
On the other hand, Flour Mills of Nigeria Plc lost the highest, shedding 10 per cent or N8.09 to close at N72.82 per share.
Aiico Insurance Plc lost five per cent or three kobo to close at 57 kobo per share.
DN Meyer Plc lost 8.73 per cent or 11 kobo to close at N1.15 per share, while Mcnichols Plc and UTC Plc shed 4.9 per cent each to close at 77 kobo and 78 per share respectively.
At the close of trading activities on Monday, investors staked N4.39bn on 578.03 million shares, in 7,740 deals.
