Shongai Packaging Industry Limited, a subsidiary of Sona Group of Companies, has said it is targeting a growth of 90 per cent in its turnover for 2013.
The Managing Director, Shongai, Dr. Francis Nikam, said the company was aiming to increase turnover by 90 per cent of the 2011 turnover figure.
“In 2011, we made N4.8bn in sales. However, we are targeting a 90 per cent growth of that value for 2013. Our 2012 result was outstanding although it is still being audited,” he said.
Speaking on the company’s eco-friendly manufacturing programme, Nikam said it was leveraging on its expertise to support the global effort to protect the environment.
He said, “Plastic wastes constitute a very high percentage of both domestic and industrial wastes in Nigeria.
“We believe these waste products can be converted to re-usable material which will help in reducing the quantity that is dumped at various landfills and ultimately ensure a better environment.”
Nikam added that the recycled plastics materials were treated, ground, and polished before being used to make plastics pallets that could be used in stacking up crates and cartons by manufacturers across various sectors.
He said the plastic pallets, which come in three sizes, were a direct replacement for wooden pallets that was still very commonly used in Nigeria.
