Chairman, Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria, Ilorin branch, Mr. Mohammed Aliyu, has said that it is imperative for managements of organisations to optimise their human resources to derive competitive advantage.
He spoke during the CIPMN (Ilorin branch) professional capacity-building summit in Ilorin on Tuesday. He stated that organisational policies and strategies should assist an organisation achieve its corporate objectives.
Aliyu added that the continued existence of every organisation currently depended on the day-to-day mobilisation of intelligence and resources of the organisation.
Vice-Chairman, CIPMN Kwara State, Mrs. Helen Williams, in a lecture titled, ‘Policies and strategies in organisations,’ said that human capital remained sensitive in the formulation and implementation of organisational policies.
She stated that it was also strategic in mapping out strategies for management of an organisation.
She added that human capital, organisational policies and strategies must be aligned to the achievement of organisation’s aims and objectives.
Managing Director, Lower Niger River Basin Development Authority, Mr. Jimoh Afolayan, said that skilled, disciplined and high trained personnel were essential for the growth and sustainability of an organisation.
He added that emphasis must be placed on training and retraining of employees through short and long term courses.
“The promotion of staff as and when due and of course prompt disciplinary actions on erring officers in accordance with statutory provisions are also important,” Afolayan said.
