The Managing Director, Guaranty Bank Plc, Mr. Segun Agbaje, said on Tuesday that the Nigerian banking landscape was moving towards a level where mobile phones would be a critical part of banking.

Agbaje said in a meeting in Lagos that the bank had recorded 100,000 active users of its mobile money platform.

He said, “We are partnering with all the network operators. Presently, we have 100,000 active users in just two months. In years to come, the mobile phones will be a critical part of banking.

“It was even estimated that it will get to a point that mobile phones will be more than the number of people on earth.”

Presenting the bank’s first quarter result, Agbaje said GTBank was committed to positioning itself as the bank of choice for Nigerians and would continue to uphold the values of discipline, hard work, excellent service quality and professionalism in all its operations.

He further said the bank’s impressive 2013 first quarter results were due to customer loyalty, employee passion, defined strategic plan and supportive Board.

A review of the result showed that the bank recorded a 20.83 per cent growth in gross earnings of N63.57bn compared to N52.62bn recorded in the first quarter of last year.
