ABC Transport Plc has announced the expansion of its operation with the injection of 24 new luxury buses.

Already, the firm said in a statement obtained on Monday that it had taken delivery of nine buses, which marked commencement of the first phase of the fleet expansion programme.

It added that the remaining batch of 15 buses would be delivered to the firm not later than August 2013.

According to the firm, its current brand of ABC coaches is equipped with surveillance monitoring camera for security purposes on-board and with speed limiters for speed controls.

The firm also said its shuttle service, a short distance intercity operation, had received a boost from the ongoing fleet expansion.

For instance, it said 33 new Toyota Hiace minibuses would be deployed before the end of the year to augment the existing fleet plying the South-East and South-South routes.

“ABC Sprinter, a long haul intercity service for light travellers, has been injected with new fleet,” it added.

It said the loyal customers of the luxury bus operator had been enjoying timely departures and early arrivals due to what it noted as ‘remarkable improvement in road condition nationwide’.

“To make booking easier and more accessible to customers, ABC’s on-line ticketing has been enhanced to allow passengers book on-hold and pay later at their bank of choice,” it added.

ABC Transport also recently inaugurated Smart Coaches, which it introduced to raise the standard of luxury bus travel business.

The Smart Coach is a 27-seater luxury bus designed to offer passengers an alternative between a coach and a mini bus, said the firm.

Managing Director, ABC Transport, Mr. Frank Nneji, said 10 units of the Smart Coach were procured and deployed on different routes.

He said that there was a high rate of fatal accidents involving mini-buses on long haul, which often exposed the passengers to serious injury and death.
