The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Alhaji Bukar Aji has said that a new leadership management and succession planning process aimed at the sustenance of effective and efficient service delivery is being developed in the Federal Civil Service.
A statement by the Director of Communication, Mr. Tope Ajakaiye, obtained by The Punch on Tuesday in Abuja said Aji made the submission while declaring open a one-day workshop with the theme ‘Leadership management and succession planning in the Federal Civil Service.”
The event was jointly organised by the Service Policies and Strategies Office in the Office of the HOS and the Department for International Development in the Federal Public Administration Reform programme.
The HOS, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Service Policies and Strategies Office, Dr. Folashade Yemi-Esan, said that to achieve her vision of building a world-class civil service, Nigeria must develop a process that would help in putting in place appropriate leadership management and succession planning modalities.
He said, “The civil service we crave for in Nigeria is one that is highly professional, performance-driven and anchored on stewardship to the people”.
Aji implored participants to see the civil service as an essential pillar of a modern state that must continue to renew and re-invigorate itself to meet up with the contemporary world challenges.
The workshop was designed to acquaint staff with the newly created Department of Leadership and Succession Planning in the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, with its mandates and functions.
It will also assist them to deliberate on the leadership challenge of the Federal Civil Service and come up with implementable management planning and succession planning models.
Earlier in his goodwill message, the Chairman, Senate Committee on Establishment and Public Service Matters, Senator Aloysius Etok, assured that the Senate would continue to partner and support the FCS in its current reforms, aimed at delivering effective and efficient services to the people of Nigeria.
